The Festival 2015

Network members from across the UK travelled to Coventry for the annual 18-25 event The Festival for a weekend of adventure.

The Festival is an annual network event hosted in Coventry at Rough Close Scout Campsite. This year heralded the 10th edition of the popular network event, where over 270 scouts from across the UK descended to the Midlands for a weekend of fun and adventure, Dave and Andrew from Scout Radio went along to join in with all the action.

The camp had a wide range of activities; from a cave bus to archery, crafts to crate climbing, inflatables to Frisbee golf and even an escape room. The evening activities also included a pub quiz, karaoke, 2 DJ’s and a local rock cover band. The 54 acre campsite was bustling with vibrancy and laughter, whilst the sun stayed strong and hot throughout the length of the weekend to be enjoyed by all.

Scouts from Northumberland and Ireland travelled from afar to camp for the weekend; however the furthest attending members were the Venezuelan and Argentinian scouts, in attendance as part of the brand new Gilwell Park network group setup for the volunteers on the site service crew.  Veronica from Venezuela told Scout Radio “We’re here trying out a little bit of the Network experience from the UK, it’s very different to what we’re used to back home but we’re also having a lot of fun!”.

After a spot of rain amongst the Network Games on Sunday morning; composed of obstacle relay courses, volleyball, a football tournament and tug of war, the weather picked up to add a highlight onto the end of the weekend. The Festival has already confirmed it will reappear on the Network events calendar next year from the 1st – 3rd July 2016.
