At 12pm on 5 June 2016, the first national memorial to Scouting was unveiled at the National Memorial Arboretum.

Scout Radio was proud to be in attendance and help to capture the event, which revealed the result of seven years work by the project team – a project that has seen world wide support and recognition.

The memorial recognizes the difference Scouting has made to so many, and remembers the huge amount of service given by so many Scouts across communities and throughout the armed forces.

It also captures Scouting’s spirit of global friendship and adventure.

The memorial was unveiled by young people and relatives of those Scouts who designed the structure and the relatives of those who have lost their lives while serving others.

More than 2,000 adults and young people with a connection to Scouting observed the unveiling at the National Memorial Arboretum, which was also attended by The Lord Lieutenant for Staffordshire, Ian Dudson as well as Wayne Bulpitt, UK Chief Commissioner and Matt Hyde CEO of The Scout Association.
